Some Thoughts On “European Stock Drop Reflects Global Economic Worries”

Nations, and states like cities and private companies must have a process for structured bankruptcy to restore confidence, fiscal responsibility, and growth. Central banks are becoming the dominant owner, and buyer of last resort for sovereign debt. As a result, their policy tools and coordination should be expanded so that a phased deleveraging of governments worldwide (only impacting securities owned by central banks) can be exchanged for constitutionally enforced balance budgets and the implementation of pro-growth economic policies that scale back entitlements and regulation, lower marginal rates, broaden the tax base, and shift the burden of taxation away from labor, capital, and entrepreneurship, and towards consumption, pollution, and inheritance. Simultaneously, International trade regimes should be modified to encourage major exporters to shift investment towards production and employment in their export markets. The alternative is decades of stagflation, or worse.

A Response To “Kicking Hybrid Cars Out of the Fast Lane”

Manipulation of free advice market operations by the government simply misallocates resources, reduces choices, and rewards politicians. When freely fluctuating PRICES are the main criterion used by the private sector to make decisions, the price directed economy will properly allocate resources to their highest value. Scarcity in free markets allows the greatest amount of goods and services to be available for the largest numbers of people. It rewards productivity and discourages slovenliness. History has documented this over and over.

In reality, there are very few functions that should be performed by government: perhaps providing for national defense, regulating indivisible goods and services, acting where externalities exist, providing a true system of justice, protection of property rights, and providing for those individuals who are TRULY unable to provide for themselves.

POLITICIANS UNDERSTAND ALL OF THE ABOVE, THAT IS WHY THEY DON’T ALLOW FREE MARKETS TO FUNCTION: THE POLITICIANS WOULD BE FORCED TO DOCUMENT THEIR VALUE TO SOCIETY–THEY CREATE LITTLE VALUE TO SOCIETY VIA MANIPULATION THROUGH GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS IN PLACE OF FREE-MARKET PRICES DIRECTING ACTIVITIES, RESOURCES, AND BEHAVIORS.

My Take On “Tim Tebow: God’s Quarterback”

Well written article. Thanks for that. I appreciate the WSJ for just covering this. He is just a man and a dude. I think I read that he knows that God doesn’t care who wins the game. So, he is a good example of a man (in public) trying to be obedient and a servant. I haven’t watched fantasy football advice since 1995 so I didn’t even know who he played for before tonight. So, my last thought is – thank goodness for folks who are just willing to serve. I am not evangelical, but I support folks who are clearly working to do good. I am pretty sure that he will continue to serve nomatter what his football status is.

Some Thoughts On “Robert Reich: Can Obama Pull a ‘Clinton’ on the GOP?”

Reich counts on readers not knowing what happened when the first Works Progress Administration and Civilian Conservation Corps were created. In 1938, nine years into the Depression, unemployment hit 25% again.

The real problem is that Obama has dating advice for menced American enterprise into the same defensive crouch FDR did. True Blue Keynesians like Reich always think the failure of previous blowout spending calls for bigger blowout spending. Sad to say, Clinton actually kept the guy in check while the Fed inflated the tech bubble.

Keynesians evidently think the economy should be kept in perpetual irrational exhuberance. Which, of course, is irrational.

An Opinion On “EPA Proposes Tighter, Costlier Smog Limits”

Apparently commenters here do not see the difference between controlling smog and controlling CO2. the EPA has clear charter and sufficient reason to act on smog. Declaring that CO2 is harmful to human health is as absurd as declaring that H2O is harmful to human health; of course both substances are harmful in excessive quantities.

Setting up Ms. Lisa Jackson to declare an endangerment finding against CO2 will turn out to make a mockery of the EPA, and look at how quickly the screwball right starts to peck on this really silly action, like a flock of birds peck on a sick member of their own flock. They know they have a target that will be easily ripped to shreds, with tasty entrails there for all to enjoy. After this, no other bird will call in sick. Similarly, the EPA will be reduced to an agency with no clout.

An Opinion On “Bjørn Lomborg: Global Warming and Adaptability”

Bjorn Lomborg’s rational and reasoned teen advice is noted. But the global warming movement is not about climate, the environment, or human well being. It is about power and control over vast populations and the way they live, including all of us in the U.S. And it is about money: Funding for the armies of climate modelers who are not real scientists, as we understand the term; windfalls for those such as Al Gore who leverage their ideology into profits while not doing a whit themselves to reduce their emissions; windfalls for third world tin horn dictators; and windfalls for the rent seeking corporations that feed at the public trough.

Retail Businesses Need Loyalty Programs

Large and small businesses alike benefit from effective Customer Loyalty programs. A small mom-and-pop sandwich shop can bring in local customers by offering a “buy three, get one free” card. Credit card companies have discovered that consumers appreciate the benefits their points programs provide. Any retail business can find a way to let its best customers know how much their business is appreciated through monetary rewards or gifts. A retail business should seriously consider implementing a loyalty program, whether it’s one the company designs itself or one that is provided by a dedicated company that designs and implements loyalty programs.
